Amazon To Make Site More Accessible To Blind Persons

September 2, 2008 (FinancialWire) -- Internet retailer Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) (Current Market Cap: US$34.42 Bil.) will make its website more accessible for blind people following a settlement by Target (NYSE: TGT) with the National Federation of the Blind.
Amazon will be required to make some of its web software more accessible to blind people, under the terms of a $6 million legal settlement agreed between Target and the NFB. In a class action suit against Target California residents argued that the retailer's e-commerce website, one of the busiest in the US, was not sufficiently accessible to software programs used by blind people to read online text aloud.
Under the terms of a settlement, Target has agreed to implement a new design code for its site, to fix a list of issues, and to work with the NFB to improve web features.
